Character: Mae (Coraxmaehe)

World Description: Mae comes from a civilization of humanoids which evolved from bird-like creatures. The species is called Aves erectus, but refer to themselves as the Lotl. The Lotl are divided into several subspecies, just as with birds. The subspecies keep to themselves in flocks or clans, depending on whether they're migratory or not, and have distinctive traits which mark them as members of their respective groups. No individual Lotl refers to themselves as such: they identify as their clan or flock, and take that name as their surname.

The Lotl are a space-faring hierarchical society, with the most intellectually, academically, and technologically advanced clans occupying the top rung, followed by the raptor clans, which often compose the militia, and so on down to the staunch traditionalists. However, the system used to determine hierarchy is complex, in that it also takes into account purity of the species. If a clan has become saturated with non-Lotl blood, they lose status.

While the Nuru were once among Coraxmaehe's most favorited clan, when their obsession with blood purity overcame everything else, the things that she is the goddess of: desire, chaos and death, became less important to them. If a clan's signature need, as a group becomes breeding, then the desire part of sex goes out of the window. In order to make up for it, Coraxmaehe needs to stir up more discord in order to keep up her power base.

She does this in several ways, including, but not only up to: interfering with breeding pairs, making the chaste system more painful for people, and stirring up drama between the clans. But mostly, she tends to reward breeding pairs who have desire in them, desire for one another rather than just the desire for procreation.

History: Once upon a time, there was the world of the Lotl, a place where, instead of humanoids evolving from apes, they had evolved from birds. Birds of various subspecies became separate tribes, and for much time, there was peace. Oh, there had been various squabbles over resources, but in the end, the birds migrated and changed, and the planet healed when it needed to.

Then a bridge opened between their world and the world of the humans. There was a time when the divine could still transform back into their smaller bird counterparts, and the story goes that a dove saw a human and changed her appearance in order to incite his lust and because of that coupling, the two species became one. Two children were born of that union, twins in the form of a two girls, mirror images of themselves who both represented the best and worst of both species.

First there was Coraxmaehe, the older twin who hatched first from her egg. It was dark when the shell broke, so the moon rose above her, destroying the darkness that wrapped the space between the two worlds. In the darkness, the spirits of the dead hovered, twisting in their grief and hating the living. The dead would haunt the living, torching them in the night while they tried to sleep. Each night they would steal the breath of babies and the elderly, trying to warm themselves with it, but it never lasted, and the bitterness grew when their numbers did.

But the moon changed that, blooming forward and lighting the way to the rest that the dead so needed. Souls came to Coraxmaehe, loving her, and pleading with her. They taught her about desire. First the desire to be alive, and then other desires, more basic on a human level. They taught her about the desire that comes with coveting, and how it can get into your heart, and they taught her about how people desire love and relationships and acceptance. Coraxmaehe learned about acceptance, and the first thing for her to accept was her place in the world.

The world, the night, and bringing those who had passed on into the afterlife.

Her twin sister was born with the dawn, and acted as Coraxmaehe's mirror. Whereas Coraxmaehe drew the dead to her, Alenamehe brought the living. She was order to Coraxmaehe's chaos, the living to her dead and the love to her desire. But the two of them got on well, creating a perfect circle of happiness and tranquility.

That was until the two of them were teenagers. Time passes differently for goddesses, and the world and seasons turn much slower than they ever would for humans. Generations of their followers met Coraxmaehe who guided them to the land of the dead in her raven form, and eventually one night when she turned back into her proper form, she was a girl no longer. No, she was a woman with lush breasts and a powerful desire.

It was a simple matter to go find someone who was praying to her, whispering her name, and touching them, tracing her fingers against their skin and learning all of the parts of them that she instinctively knew. When he cried out her name, Coraxmaehe could feel the power moving through her, even more so when his wife came screaming to see what his prayer had wrought. Discord too, made the climax even sweeter and she moaned loudly, when she came, drowning the three of them in her power.

They were her first priest and priestess, and Coraxmaehe enjoyed both of them in turn, because desire was desire for her, and it came from all humans regardless of their gender. The three lived for a good long time, representing the night and easily, even eagerly giving in when it was time for Alenamehe's rule. The two siblings were peaceful and loving, enjoying the time when both could be together in twilight and in the time before dawn.

Alenamehe loved her sister in the familial way, and Coraxmaehe loved her sister in the only way she knew: with desire and pleasure. Deciding that Alenamehe couldn't feel love in the same way that she could, instead she acted a bit like a spoiled child demanding hugs and pettings, which Alenamahe would give to her in abundance. It was enough until the two sisters both fell for the same mortal.

Love bloomed between the mortal and Alenamahe, but it lacked the desire and passion that the emotion had when Coraxmaehe blessed it. Insanely jealous of both the mortal and her sister, Coraxmaehe withheld desire from them, instead cruelly devouring it herself. As her bitterness grew, she began to withhold her blessings from couples who sought it, instead letting their sexlife simply be about the children that would be born of the union.

Three times Coraxmaehe offered herself to the mortal from the Nuru and three times, he refused her, so she withdrew desire from him entirely. Without desire, he found himself no longer caring for Alenamahe once she had given birth to their son, and her sister found herself retreating to the sky, leaving Coraxmaehe entirely alone.

Alone, she wanders, leaving the world that birthed her and finding other ways to have people worship her. Such worship is why she has accepted the offer that Eli made her to come to New Dodge. Too few people had been having sex before then, but that was something that Mae could fix in her guise.

And if other things came from it as well, so be it.

Personality: Coraxmaehe's personality is very difficult to place down, because of how she presents to different people. When the goal is to get people to desire her, or to cause discord around them, who she appears to be can change drastically from one person to the next. However, there are always certain parts of her personality that Mae constantly has.

The first thing that she always has is greed. Mae is a very greedy goddess, and she is the sort of person who will do things to excess simply because she can. Part of her divinity is desire, and desire is the sort of thing that, for her, doesn't often get sated. Oh, it can get better, it can cool a bit, but it is always there. When combining it with greed, it means that Mae can be rash on occasion as well, especially with someone whom she feels belongs to her.

Oh yes, as a goddess, Coraxmaehe feels like people do belong to her. Their belief in her, their worship in her is what gives her power. When she feeds on their desire, it's like she's taking them inside of herself, and she also knows them. Knowing what they want, what they need and who they are forms a powerful connection on Mae's behalf. While she does feed of discord and chaos, those she loves best are people whom she wants to be happy, even if she feels that she knows best what that happiness would be.

Feeding off people is a literal thing as well as an emotional one. Her power basis comes from the mortals around her. Mae is a sex worker because not only does she very much enjoy sex (both in a physical way, and in a spiritual way) but because it brings her closer to people. One of the major things that Mae can do is she can tell what it is a person truly desires, not only in sex, but in life. When someone pays her to have sex, they are worshipping her, and Mae loves it. Her worshippers are always people whom she will consider her own, and they will be people whom she wants to love her.

Coraxmaehe is very much a woman who needs to be loved as well as desired. This isn't something that is just romantic love (though she enjoys it very, very much) but it's also something that she wants in different ways. She wants to be adored and loved and cherished, not as a goddess, but as a person. It's perhaps the main reason why she keeps her divinity a secret; she wants someone to love her for who she is other than the goddess mantle.

Despite the desire to be loved and important, Mae isn't normally a jealous person. There are some exceptions here and there, but most often she believes that whatever love is out there in the universe it should be cherished as well.

Why do you think your character would work in this setting? Mae will work in the settling because she has a plan and a reason to be there. Also, she is going to be running the whorehouse, which with mod permission will just appear overnight.

Third-Person Sample: Before she had seen him, Coraxmaehe had felt him. His soul called to hear, speaking to the part of her that was divine, asking her to come to him and seek his peace. It was the nature of souls to want peace, even when they weren't aware that it was something that they wanted. He was here, far away from his clan, from his inska, his family.

Far from the teaching of the gods he had studied. Mae did not believe in conquincidence; he was here for a reason, given to her for a divine purpose. And that divine purpose was whatever she had happened to want. The universe could be good, she knew, the goddess was certain that she had felt the pull of this place for a reason: to find someone who would serve as her high priest.

Most of the priestesses in her sect had been female; the men were too easily used. They didn't prove enough of a challenge, and they didn't cause enough conflict, both internal and external. When one spent far too much time thinking with their cock, then it was a simple matter to just stroke it with silken fingers and have them fall down to worship at her feet.

It was the reason that she hadn't showed him who she was yet. Later, of course, when she wasn't feeding of the conflict going on inside of him. Mae never understood why some of the gods would want their people to be celibate, but their wishes made things more fun for her. Milo would be attracted to her, and it would drive him mental. Like it already had.

But it wasn't enough, and the internal struggle was growing a bit old and boring. It needed to have a new dimension added to it, which was why Mae found herself standing outside of the back room, feeling the way that he was fighting himself. It made her smile, a lazy slow sort of one, and she closed her eyes for a moment.

Her hair took on a blue sheen, like the feathers that adorned him, and she quickly undid the strays that held up her corset with hardly a thought. As of yet, she didn't think he was aware of her propensity towards magic, so she moved inside almost demandingly, her hand holding the corset barely against her breasts.

"Milo," she called, in a soft melodic voice with an accent that one never would be able to place, because it was literally from everywhere, and shifted often. "I need some help."

First-Person Sample: [The TC clicks on in the lobby of a nice house. A new house as a matter of fact, one that just appeared overnight in the middle of some of the empty space in town. It's got many rooms and the parlor where the woman is standing is well anointed with a well-stocked bar against the wall. The woman standing there is small and dark, and she has a very welcoming smile to go along with the corset showcasing her breasts.]

Good evening, New Dodge. It seems that you are in need of some of my services. My name is Mae, and I am here to tend to some of your needs. For a fee of course. [And then she grins quickly and there is nothing demure in that expression.]

Yes, I have the honor of running New Dodge's first house of ill repute, or a whorehouse, or however else you want to call it. Please save me any of your puritanical nonsense. We are all adults here, and I practice very safe sex. My rates are good and I am beautiful as well.

In addition to the sex, we have a fully stocked bar and a piano as well. Eventually I will be hiring, once I know what I am working with here.

So come on in, both ladies and gentleman, and whoever identifies as anything else. I look forward to meeting you.
